Ms Algebra's Tutoring

This week I got an opportunity to go to the ultimate Professional Development for Math teachers, CAMT, Conference for the Advancement of Math Teaching.

The theme this year was Let’s Talk Math. The Secondary Math Facilitator  served on the Program Committee this year and invited a few of us to serve on her volunteer team. 

We experienced three fun-filled days learning about teaching math that’s relevant to the students we serve. I may have picked up a tool or 2 for my tool belt. The sessions today, the last day, were my absolute FAVES!!! 

Building Thinking Classrooms, Vocabulary Strategies to have the words to Talk the Talk, Language Rich Interactive Classroom, and Overcoming Math Trauma to name a few sessions that just had me in my happy place. 

What an honor it has been to serve and learn at CAMT. As Pam Harris has told us, Math is Figure-Out-Able. We as teachers have to give students the space and environment to be responsible for their learning. Students opinions are valid. The more we appreciate where they are, their trauma-related responses decrease and their desire to learn and efforts skyrocket. 

As always, Be Right, Be Wrong, Don’t Be Nothing!!! Ms. Algebra is building confidence one solution at a time!!!
